The airport is named in honor of Henry E. Rohlsen, a well known Crucian pilot , who had been involved in early aviation in South America and the Caribbean. He was a member of the legendary World War II Tuskegee Airmen , flying the fast P-51 fighter planes in support of Allied bomber in Europe.
